In a new interview for W‘s Best Performances issue, George Clooney opens up about leaning into hands-on parenting during the pandemic. Clooney and his wife, human rights lawyer Amal Clooney, welcomed twins Ella and Alexander in June 2017. The actor has previously shared that because 3-year-old Alexander has asthma, the family has been staying home amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“I’ll tell you what I’ve taken on as a hobby: two or three loads of laundry a day, dishes all f*****g day, because these kids are all slobs,” he laughed to W writer Lynn Hirschberg asked about how he was spending his downtime. “Apparently, you have to wash your children every once in a while.”

The 59-year-old added that he’s responsible for cutting Alexander’s hair — but Ella’s is off-limits.

“I cut [my son’s] hair, and I cut my own hair too, but I’ve always cut my own hair,” Clooney told the magazine. “My hair is like straw. I haven’t cut my daughter’s hair. I’d get in trouble if I did. My daughter looks gorgeous — her hair is very long. If I screw up my son’s hair, he’ll grow out of it. But my wife would kill me if I touched my daughter’s hair.”

Clooney uses a Flowbee, a staple of late-night infomercials, to do his cutting.

“It’s got a little suction on it, and then it’s got these trimmers so it pulls your hair up and you cut it,” he shared. “It’s hooked up to its own little vacuum cleaner … It’s not scary at all.”

The Midnight Sky star recently spoke to AARP The Magazine about his efforts to give his twins a sense of normalcy.

“I didn’t want, like, weird-ass names for our kids,” he told the outlet. “They’re already going to have enough trouble. It’s hard being the son of somebody famous and successful.

“Paul Newman’s son killed himself,” he added. “Gregory Peck’s son killed himself. Bing Crosby had two sons kill themselves. I have an advantage because I’m so much older that by the time my son would feel competitive, I’ll literally be gumming bread.”
