Fire Fears: Series of suspicious fires plaguing Norfolk neighborhood

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – In the past 16 months, there have been five suspicious fires in the West Ghent neighborhood in Norfolk.

The most recent happened on June 11 around 9:15 p.m. The McGee family was nestled in their living room. A movie was playing on the TV. Their two young boys, ages 4 and 6, were falling asleep on the couch.

Pipeline parent suing for land access

A St. Louis-based energy company has filed a lawsuit seeking use of temporary access roads on land controlled by the Betty Ann Jefferson Trust, Philip and Zena Brown and Marc Steckel. 

Spire STL Pipeline has asked U.S. District Court for the Central District of Illinois to grant the company possession of the easement and temporary access road, which they claim is necessary to complete work ordered by the same court. 

The pipeline, known as the Spire STL Pipeline, covers 65 miles across Scott, Greene and Jersey counties in Illinois and St. Charles and St. Louis counties in Missouri.

Texas couple asked to take down Pride Flag, warned of fines from neighborhood’s HOA

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Newlywed couple David Colligan and Alonzo Rivas were beaming with pride as they hung up their colorful flag. That excitement quickly turned into shock after they received a notice from property management to take it down.

A notice from property management — which the couple shared with KXAN — states their home owner’s association only allows American, armed forces, and State of Texas flags to be hung.

Fireworks blamed for brush fire that spread to South Vallejo neighborhood

Evacuation area from Vallejo fire. 

A multi-alarm, 10 to 15-acre vegetation fire threated homes in a South Vallejo neighborhood near the Swanzy Reservoir Monday evening. Investigators are looking into fireworks as the cause. A mandatory evacuation order has been lifted.

Fire officials said mutual aid made quick progress fighting the fire, which was knocked down by 10:30 p.m.

Accidental shootings happen over and over again across the country and in Louisville.

Monday is National Ask Day. ASK stands for “Asking Saves Kids.”
